The 1804 Inn is located in Barboursville, Virginia and offers quality lodging, history, fine wine and access to Washington, DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival.
It's a defining part of the history as well as the nature of this estate, fully embodied by Gianni and Silvana Zonin in acquiring it in 1976 to create Barboursville Vineyards, to extend hospitality with the most generous and, it must be said, naturally elegant touch. The embrace of accommodation at Barboursville was not constructed but merely opened, as the Zonin family resolved to share a residence and its handsome dependencies where, for decades, their only guests had been family or close friends. The 1804 Inn is a living treasure of a priceless past and a brilliant, flourishing present, a classic Georgian villa which has been invisibly renovated to the height of contemporary comfort. Just 10 minutes up the same road, one can visit Mr. Madison's Montpelier, and a half hour down this road, Mr. Jefferson's Monticello, just as they would always pass through here, on their way to see each other. Thus, in this house, the silence of Flemish bond walls, the airiness of 11-foot ceilings, and the glow of hand-hewn floors are irreplaceable, as are the period English bone china, antique silver, priceless furnishings and art of England, Italy, France and Virginia from the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries which enrich its furnishings. Even then, in every room, from every window, the serenity and seclusion of this splendid vineyard reminds the visitor of the timeless way of life beneath it all.
